  • Maker Studio Programs

    Learning in Maker Studio Club is never the same as the learning at classroom. Directed by "Learning by Playing"theory from MIT, Our club uses design thinking strategy to simulate/solve the real life problems from our children, either a new scooter design or a new environment protect project. The learning is organized in a series of project based workshops with different topics, where rich modern learning tools, such as robotics, 3D printing, electronics, building blocks, will be provided to free children's imagination and make real things happen . Maker Studio Club is not a simple After school or school holiday programs as others, but a program to embrace collaborative learning with the team, a program to build up their confidence by hands on doing.

     

    Some parents will possible worried about their children have too much e-learning with computer already. At Maker Studio Club, we just treat coding as one of the basic skills, like others. In the workshop, our young learners will learn to utilize all other different S.T.E.M(Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) skills to make real things happen. In the end, we want our young learner be ready for the 21 century.

     

     

     

    Simple Machines Weekend Program

    Weekend Program

     

    This "Simple Machine" weekend programme is ready for enrollment now. Specially designed for children between 6~8 years old, we will work together to discover those mysteries behind those machines with building blocks and motors.

    Not only build up basic mechanic skills, this program can also help to build up students’ confidence, persistence, and problem solving skills. This program is also a good social networking program, your children can learn how to play as a team and enjoy the community learning fun.

    Basic Info:

    • Age: 6~8 years 
    • Duration:  10:30 AM~12:00 PM (1.5 hours)
    • Time: Every Saturday (from 4th, Aug to 29th September, 2018)
    • Spaces Available: 8
    • Location: MakerStudio (Half Moon Bay)

    Coding Your World with Scratch

    Basis information:

    • Age requirements: Yr3~Yr4

    Introduction of the program

    • Suitable for beginner young learner to learn how to do simple coding before running to complex projects.

    • Focus on building up the basic computing thinking idea in young learners , rather than simple coding skills

    • The whole program is module based design and is very adaptive to all suitable ages and genders.

    • Learning by playing with a lot of fun

    • This program had been specially designed and had been successfully run in local schools and communities.

    Young Toy and Game Designer

    Basic information:

    • Age requirements: Yr 4~Yr 5

    • Duration: 1.5 hours

    • Max enrollment: 10 students/Class

    • Proposed Time: 3:15~4:45PM (Easy for parents to pick up)
     
    Introduction of the program
    • This program combines both the software coding and simple electronics together in a really fun way
    • Student will learn how to re design a toy and game with modern technology, design thinking and collaboration

    • They will learn how to decompose a complex video game to small workable modules

    • They will learn use more advanced coding skills to revolve the problems

    • Students need to design the theme of their own games with all material being provided.

    • A combination of coding, science, math, art and engineering program

    Learning by doing, Learning by play

    The story behind MakerStudio NZ

    "My kids stay all days long playing those computer games and lose interests to all other things", "They said they want to play guitar but later they didn't show up interest after putting him to a guitar class". "My boy just want to stay at home and doesn't want to go outside play". Trust me, those things are very common in now days and they even happened to my son. It seems our kids are hanging around and can't show their passions and focus to learning. For sometimes, I didn't know what should I do until I accidentally join in a MakerSpace back in 2011. It opens another door for learning------learning by doing, learning through play.

     

    In MakerSpace, most participants will not realize that playing is learning. Here, Children will gain their knowledge by hands on making or hacking their interested targets collaboratively with this friends. Sometimes they are confused in their learning journey, they start to ask their own questions and learn from their own failures. Learning is not boring, it is more fun and enjoyable and challenging themselves. Since I join in the MakerSpace activities with my son, I realized my son are more active, confident and collaborative in his learning and most importantly, We have much better relationship now. If it works for me and my son's learning, why it can't work for other children, parents, educators in the whole world. That is the reason I start this business. I want to proof to everyone, Learning can be fun, Learning can be acheived via play.

     

     

    MakerStudio NZ was founded with two simple goals in the mind:

     

    No 1, By providing our kids fun special designed after school/school holiday/workshop with modern technology tools, MakerStudio want to demonstrate our children and parents a different learning experience where they can learn not by listening by but doing. Through playing and making things colloboratively, our children can develop their social and cognitive skills, gain self-confidence and critical thinking skills needed to excel in the future. Modern technology tools, such as robotics, camera, electronics, building blocks etc will be provided to our club members, but they will be used as learning tools and will be organized in a more constructive way and embedded as part of our member's learning journey. Through those tools, our club members will make their own movie, making friends with their collaborative creations, or gain real problem solving skills by resolving real problems in their life. .

     

    No#2, for schools and 3rd party educators, using modern technology tools are attractive, but the lack of technical support, missing related curriculum and expensive cost prevents the widely adoption of those tools. As a expert on this area, we will work with worldwide partners and pick up only teaching verified technology tools to our NZ customers. To make the teaching easy, we also provide technology support and co-develop curriculum with our local educator friends.

    Jerry is my son, a junior maker, a minecrafter, a programmmer and the reason why I created this company. He is always my first cuctomer to try all my programs, products and always give me his opinion. Although he is only 11 years old, but he is really my super teaching assisstant and motivation. You definitely will see him in my workshops.
